Lies Wesseling is director of the Centre for Gender and Diversity – Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University and professor in the Department of Literature and Art. Her research is on the cultural construction of childhood in fiction and science. Her current projects focus on narrative models for forging kinship in global adoption. Keywords: cultural construction of childhood, literature and science studies, i.e. the co-construction of childhood images in fiction (novel, film, children’s literature) and science-based child rearing advice (developmental psychology, anthropology), 1845-2000, narrative models for forging kinship in global adoption (1955-2010).
