Fierce & Fearless or Stealthy & Strategic?
Reclaiming the Feminist Project in the University
NOG Research Day 2025
Hosted by the Radboud Network for Gender and Diversity Studies,
Radboud University, 2 October 2025
Radboud Gender & Diversity Studies hosts the annual NOG Research Day on Thursday 2 October, 2025.
Titled Fierce & Fearless or Stealthy & Strategic? Reclaiming the Feminist Project in the University, the day will revolve around presentations by PhD researchers in gender and sexuality studies. Through paper and poster presentations, the participants explore the constraints and possibilities that the current political conjecture poses for the future of gender studies and academic feminisms and share the new and exciting insights from their current research.
How do we respond to the current political pressures in a way that goes beyond a defensive positioning or even ‘wounded attachments’ (Brown 1993), towards a positive reclamation of the feminist project in the university? What figurations of resistance and resilience do we turn to in this process – the feminist killjoy (Ahmed 2024), the space invader (Puwar 2004), or the stealth feminist (Laliberté et al. 2017)?
These questions will additionally be explored in a roundtable conversation with the editors of three recent handbooks on Gender Studies: Doing Gender in Media, Art and Culture (3rd edition 2025), Handbook of Gender Studies in the Dutch Caribbean (Brill 2024) and the new edition and the English translation of Caleidoscopische Visies. De zwarte, migranten- & vluchtelingen-vrouwenbeweging in Nederland (Amsterdam University Press 2025). Among others, Kathrin Thiele, Nancy Jouwe, and Sruti Bala have confirmed their participation.
