Dear colleague, contact, friend,

In the past 18 years I have worked with much pleasure in the Gender Studies Department, Faculty of the Humanities, at Utrecht University, as the coordinator of the one-year MA  programme ‘Comparative Women’s Studies in Culture and Politics’ and as the Aletta professor in  Gender and Ethnicity. Together with my colleagues there, I have helped to build an internationally renowned training trajectory in Gender Studies and Postcolonial Studies at BA, MA (one and two-year) and PhD levels. During the past year, which I spent on sabbatical at NIAS (The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies), I have come to realize that at this moment in my life I would like to spend more time on research and publishing. This has made me decide to retire early on September 1, 2012. I will continue to supervise PhD-students, in the framework of the Netherlands Research School Gender Studies (NOG). Somewhere in the coming year, after I have completed my current book Innocence Unltd., there will an official farewell, organized by the UU Graduate Gender Programme and NOG, about which I will inform you, in due time. I thank you for all the good, productive and warm contacts that we have had in the past years and I expect to meet you in future.

Sincerely,
Prof. Dr. Gloria Wekker
