Dr. Roel van den Oever is assistant professor of English literature at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He holds a ‘doctoraal’ degree, cum laude, in American studies from Radboud University Nijmegen (1997-2001). At Radboud University, he also completed a postgraduate program in philosophy on a Thomas More scholarship (2001-2002). He was a visiting student at the University of Iowa (2001), where he took courses in film theory and queer studies. As a research fellow at the Center for the Humanities, Wesleyan University (2005-2006), he published on the poets Allen Ginsberg and Frank O’Hara. He received his Ph.D. degree, cum laude, from the Center for Gender and Diversity, Maastricht University (2007-2011). In 2012, Palgrave Macmillan published his book Mama’s Boy: Momism and Homophobia in Postwar American Culture.
