On January 26 and January 27-28 2022, the NOG PhD Council and Accessible Academia are organizing an online lecture and workshop on Ableism in Academia. The lecture and workshop will be given by Dr. Nicole Brown (University College London, UK). Nicole Brown is Associate Professor at the University College London, Institute of Education and Director of Social Research & Practice and Education Ltd. Nicole’s research interests relate to physical and material representations of experiences, the generation of knowledge and use of metaphors to express what is difficult to express, and more generally, research methods and approaches to explore identity and body work.

The public lecture on January 26, 2022 “Disclosure dances in doctoral education” by dr. Nicole Brown will be followed by a response by Dr. Piet Devos, a Belgium writer and literary theorist. 

On January 27 and 28, 2022 Dr. Nicole Brown will give the workshop “Ableism in Academia: being disabled, chronically ill and/or neurodivergent in higher education” for PhD and MA students.

We invite all RMA and PhD students interested in the topic to join the workshop. RMA and PhD students can obtain ECTS when attending both the lecture and the workshop. 1 ECTS  can be awarded by following both the lecture and the workshop, with a possibility to earn an additional 1 ECTS by handing in an assignment.
